Coke Flight

Coke Flight is a proprietary app specifically for the top tier of Coca-Cola Executives (the CEO and his direct reports - less than 20 users). Executive Assistants (EA) use Coke Flight to privately and securely share upcoming travel plans with the Executive team on a closed network. The primary purpose was to keep Executives informed of safety and security risks while on travel.

Project Goals – Collaborate with the Coca-Cola Executive Security team to develop a secure application that facilitates the sharing of critical travel information among the company’s top leaders. The app must offer real-time updates on upcoming flights and details about pilots and drivers. Additionally, equip Executives with essential country-specific regulations, including dos and don’ts, for safe and smooth travel across the globe.

My Role – I led the project and communication with the Security and Executive Assistants to understand requirements. While also coaching the Designer through UX problem-solving methods, ensuring the design effort was user-centered. We iterated with the EAs several times to hone in on the simplest way to display trip-related content. I compiled a variety of mood boards to get a sense of the preferred design style (darker interface designs) and continued coaching the Designer throughout the UI development.

Discover + Define – We interviewed Security and Executive Assistants to understand a typical trip and the measures implemented to ensure safe and informed travel. We worked with the Executive team to understand their comfort level with technology and their specific needs. We learned that the Executive team:

  • Work primarily on the go via iPad

  • Like having flight and driver details readily available

  • Prefers having easy access to meeting/event documents

  • Are very conscious of country-specific cultural appropriations

Design – I outlined requirements based on the EA’s feedback, which the Designer translated into clickable wireframes for stakeholder reviews. Wireframes included multiple ways to view trip listings (tile, calendar, and list views), event and meeting documents, plus country-specific appropriations guidelines.

Deliver – Ultimately, we created a simple interface that captured all our identified requirements. We provided them multiple views they could toggle between - with a dark interface for better "low-light" accessibility. We worked closely with developers to create simple interactivity to give the experience a polished professional feel - complete with a login screen and a time-out feature for added security.

Results – The Executive team and their Assistants have enthusiastically embraced a new tool that ensures travel safety and security. This innovative solution eliminated the need for outdated and risky printed documents. Executives have expressed their appreciation for the app’s ability to provide a sense of confidence, as it centralizes all necessary travel documents in one place. Last I heard, they are already considering features for the next iteration.
