Coca-Cola Org Directory

The Coca-Cola Company faced an unexpected issue in our interconnected world. Close to half of their contracted Associates lacked access to essential systems such as Workday, creating challenges for contract and salary Associates to connect with the right people. At the root of this quandary – separate teams and systems were used to manage contract and salary employees.

Project Goals – Bring both teams’ developers, Employee Relations, and Legal together for alignment. Create a simple system for displaying organizational hierarchy and directory information (accessible by all employees).

My Role – My sole responsibility was to oversee the process, providing art direction and UX coaching throughout several design revisions and testing rounds. After finalizing the design, I created a detailed implementation guide.

Associate profiles have been substituted for confidentiality reasons.

Discover – We interviewed a diverse pool of Associates to understand feature needs.  According to our research, many features in out-of-the-box solutions were unnecessary.  Associates preferred a straightforward mobile method to search for their colleagues “without clutter.” We also did a comparative analysis of several directory-based applications.

Define – Must-haves include a visual org hierarchy of all Associates with directory details and contact information. Simple access to the directory through multiple entry points (Search, Org, and List).

Design – Our comparative analysis exercise helped us identify ways to simplify the interface. We refined the hierarchical navigation through low-fidelity wireframes. Testing each round with Associates.

Results – The new system was very well received among all Associates, primarily due to the clean and efficient use of space and basic but powerful functionality.
